A Legend Was Lost – Rest In Peace Prodigy

The Hip-Hop community lost another legend as the most infamous rapper Prodigy from Mobb Deep passed away at the age of 42. Prodigy was in Las Vegas and performed last Saturday night with the Art Of Rap tour. Hs publicist confirmed the New York rap legend passed away after being hospitalised “following complications caused by a sickle cell anaemia crisis.” Prodigy battled the disease since birth.
Words wouldn’t be sufficient to describe the musical heritage that Prodigy and his infamous partner Havoc have left to the rap game – 8 albums with Mobb Deep, among them the all-time classics The Infamous & Hell On Earth; and 8 solo projects including multiple collaborations with NY legends in the game. Prodigy & Havoc performed on the Fresh Island Festival in 2014 saving the last day of the fest. Below is the message from Blackout & Fresh Island co-founder Phat Phillie and a recap of that crazy night back in 2014.

I love Mobb Deep man, always have, always will…Mobb Deep saved our Fresh Island Festival in 2014. and we are forever grateful. The story: I get a call on Thursday around 4pm from DMX camp that he doesn’t wanna board the flight in Orlando to come headline the last day of our fest and that he wants more money, smh. Instead of wasting my time i get on emergency call with the Mobb and within 4hrs the boys are boarding the flight from JFK to Croatia to come and rock the last night of our fest. We are relatively a small festival so you can imagine not having a headliner for your final night. We bought the flights over the phone and Mobb trusted us that business will be taken care of upon their arrival. They came, they saw and they conquered. Rest In Peace Prodigy, condolences to Havoc, his fam and their team.

“Yeah, to all the killers and a hundred dollar billers!”
