Last Saturday marked the Boss Ricky Ross’ 36th birthday in which he threw himself party at Amnesia Miami, many stars where in attendance such as Cassie, Ne-Yo, Jadakiss, Amber Rose, Diddy Wiz Khalifa, Styles P and the one and only Dr. Dre who gave Rozay a brand new 100K Hublot watch as a birthday gift. Boss shit!

Pioneering college hip hop radio jocks Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito sit down on the couch for an interview with rap scholar Chairman Jefferson Mao, touching down on the beauty of unprofessional radio and the joy of igniting careers for countless artists like Jay Z, Nas, and Mobb Deep. The interview took place during the Red Bull Music Academy’s ‘New York City To the SF Bay’ lecture series in San Francisco. Oh yeah, and the whole thing is also pretty damn funny.

“I’m not the best motherfucker, but I’m better than a lot of n*ggas,” the grand imperial Lord Finesse once famously, succinctly remarked on record. While one would expect such swift hubris would apply to the Funky Man’s acumen for punchline-heavy braggadocio verses, it actually resounds three-fold. For Finesse is that true rarity amongst hip-hoppers: a revered and celebrated emcee who also boasts equally prodigious talents as a DJ and producer.

Despite classic rap efforts to his credit like 1990’s Funky Technician, it’s been Finesse’s fine work behind the console that’s kept him most active between extended breaks on the mic. Often characterized by dark, reverb-soaked horns, forgotten jazz riffs, propulsive drums, and those signature sleigh bells, his productions have naturally punctuated the efforts of his brethren in the D.I.T.C. (Diggin’ In the Crates) collective – Show & AG, Fat Joe, O.C., and his protégé, the late, great Big L. But he’s also helmed the beats for “Suicidal Thoughts,” off The Notorious B.I.G.’s Ready To Die, and “The Message” from Dr. Dre’s 2001 album. Both are classic Finesse in terms of sound and feel; both round out their respective albums with emotionally resonant tracks that show their architect’s musical range.

With his recent mixtapes, Art Of Diggin’ Vol. 1 & 2, “The Underboss” continues to display his knack for picking the right records to utilize. And though it’s been 17 years since his last LP of new raps, 2012 promises a resurgence of Finesse through a slew of both original and archival material via Slice-Of-Spice Records. Sounds like the perfect time then, to consult the Funky Technician for his all-time favorite (rather funky) sample flips.

Every Sunday night on Sirius/Xm’s “Hip Hop Nation”, DJ Eclipse and Torae
do their show called “Rap Is Outta Control.” On jan 29th, 2012, i filled in for Eclipse
while he was out on the road with La Coka Nostra. This show brings you the best new underground hiphop. I went through a lot of the newer hiphop and tried to pick songs
that i personally liked or appreciate. Nowadays since EVERYONE makes music, there is tons of demos to listen to, mixed in with actual artist and albums. I only play what i like and don’t support some of the nonsense that has infiltrated “underground” hiphop. There is tons of dudes imitating other rappers, tons of producers imitating other producers, etc.. That’s not what hiphop is all about. So on this show i did my best to rock what i thought was worthy or notable. There is lots of newer MCees and still several veterans in the game bringing you good music. When doing a “mix” show, i don’t like playing whole songs, afterall it is a “mix” show. If you like any of these tracks, you can go buy them on itunes or support by buying the CD from sites like ughh.com and fatbeats.com. I’d like to thank Dj Eclipse for doing a show like this with little reward. It’s hard work and you have to deal with several people who complain and harass you, like me. lol. According to TMZ, Soul Train creator Don Cornelius, was found dead in his home from a self inflicted gunshot wound. He was 75.

Don Cornelius was an American television show host and producer who is best known as the creator of the nationally syndicated dance/music franchise Soul Train, which he hosted from 1971-1993.

Sett je danas izbacio novi album u obliku besplatnog izdanja. Antiklimaks čine dva CD-a (ili foldera), a detaljnije informacije o albumu potražite u press release-u:

Slavni pisac Mark Twain još je davnih dana napisao: “Ne stavljaj na jedan kompakt disk ono što možeš na dva”.
I bio je u pravu.

Tom se mišlju očito vodio i Sett, čovjek zaslužan za velike disco uspješnice kao što su: “Portret jednog uma” i “Fantazmagorija lelujavosti”.Svoj je novi album naziva “Antiklimaks” zato podijelio na dva jednaka dijela. Kao srce zaljubljeno što se na dva dijela lomi ili pogača što je dobra baka dijeli sa unukom svojim.

Prvi se folder, prepun dragulja, sastoji od malih porcija zvonke radosti koje mjesto nisu pronašle ni na jednom od albuma koje je ovaj nadareni umjetnik, okretni plesač i pasionirani igrač kanaste, izdao tijekom godina svog glazbenog djelovanja. Naravno, tu se nalaze i neke novije pjesme, ali i remixevi za koje se pobrinuo gospodin Matt Davis, čovjek poznat ne samo ljubiteljima stare škole već i navijačima polo kluba sa univerziteta Yale gdje je Matt, ili Dirty Hairy, završio fakultet skreča.

Upravo na tom albumu možete pronaći i vokalne doprinose Generala Wooa, Kandžije, ali i španjolskog umjetnika Alejuandra Buendije.

Drugi je pak folder emocionalni tour de force prepun životnih istina kao što su: “Granica je nebo, mamu sam ti jebo” i “Žene vole gađati štakore”. Epohalno je to djelo i kvintesencijalni album novijeg vijeka, ali u isto vrijeme i posveta afganistanskom hrtu Labradoru kojeg je Sett izgubio baš u vrijeme nastanka ove ploče.

Sett je ovdje ugostio mnoge prijatelje koji su mu bili podrška u tom teškom razdoblju, ali i ljude koji su dijelili njegovu tugu za hrtom koji je nesebično položio život braneći ga od čopora bijesnih lisica koje su ga napale tijekom Međunarodnog sajma knjiga i učila Interliber 2011.Tu se, uz neka već spomenuta imena, nalaze i mladi pjesnik Toxz, kompozitor i dirigent Phezz Beatz, a u nekoliko je navrata ugostio i 3ki Stila s kojim je prije dvije godine napisao maestralno ostvarenje “Krankšvester”. Djelo koje su kritičari jednoglasno proglasili “albumom”.

Ukratko, “Antiklimaks” je za hip-hop ono što je motika za domobrana, more za liječnika ili tabure za čaplju – nešto što je nemoguće razdvojiti bez ozbiljnih posljedica.

Prve objave imena izvođača najavljena su za mjesec veljaču kada će krenut i službena pretprodaja ulaznica, najprije „Die Hard Fan“ i „Early Bird“ u limitiranim izdanjima namijenjenim samo za najveće fanove po najpristupačnijim cijenama. The Roots and Nas are two of my favorite performers ever… and have such an amazing catalog of gems the average fan never heard. This was a great opportunity to put something together for the people to enjoy!

Nuff said, really. Let’s be honest he had most of us at Nas X The Roots but if you’re still not sold on the concept or are having trouble keeping both Nas and The Roots in your mindframe at the same time, just watch the beautifully designed teaser video and all will be made clear.

In celebration of Crown Royal Black’s partnership with Big Boi, cameras went behind the scenes to document Big Boi during his tour in Europe to capture moments of his life and career that showcase his definition of “The Crown Life.” The short film lets audiences into Big Boi’s life as he performed at Glastonbury in England and at Hove Festival in Norway, as well as a day off in Budapest, Hungary.

The film is directed by Jacob Lincoln for Greenpoint Pictures.
