Fat Joe performs classics at his album release party

In celebration of the release of his 10th solo album, The Darkside Vol. 1, the Terror Squad leader urged any fans expecting to hear the radio friendly “Lean Back,” “Make It Rain” and “We Thuggin’” to exit the club. Instead Joe ran through an assortment of his underground classics for a performance. After starting off with ‘Heavenly Father” — the Lil Wayne-assisted cut off of his new album, Joe tore through his tried and true catalog. He rocked songs like 1993’s “Flow Joe,” ‘Firewater,” “Success” and “Shit is Real (Remix),” “John Blaze,” ‘My Lifestyle” and “Gangsta.”

In tribute to his fallen protégé Big Pun, Joe invited Joell Ortiz to help with “Deep Cover (Twinz ’98).” Joell’s homage paying performance opened the floodgates for more special guests as Cook Coke Crack rocked with Redman , Diamond D, M.O.P., Buckshot, Jeru Da Damaja and Public Enemy’s S1Ws who danced to an intro for Joe’s latest P.E.-inspired single “No Problems.”

Directed by Terence Nance, the “Something to Believe,” addresses the detachment we all battle when faced with the the world’s overwhelming issues. “It’s hard to think about all the problems in the world without getting a little overwhelmed. So, a lot of times we just ignore things. I think Africa has suffered a lot because people choose to remain ignorant, rather than address the issues that are right in front of our faces,” Blitz said.

Filmed over a three month period this past winter, “Something to Believe,” was an epic undertaking. Snow storms, scheduling conflicts, and an ambitious treatment, made for a grueling process. The end result is thanks in full to a dedicated cast and crew.

Just 10 days after the US celebrated its birthday, there was another testament to the power of independence as Duck Down presented its 15th Anniversary Concert at BB King Blues Club in NYC Times Square on July 13th. Duck Down artists Team Facelift, Ruste Juxx, Marco Polo, Torae, Skyzoo, Kidz In the Hall, Pharoahe Monch, and the mighty Boot Camp Clik featuring Buckshot, Sean Price, Smif N Wessun, Heltah Skeltah, Black Moon) graced the stage performing their classic hits. Hosts Angela Yee and Amanda Diva kept the show moving smoothly, while DJ Evil Dee provided music throughout the evening.

Special guest performers during the evening included Large Professor, !llmind, Stalley, Donnis, Daru, Jean Grae, Styles P, DJ Boogie Blind, Mela Machinko, Pete Rock, Tony Touch, Immortal Technique, Masta Ace, and Talib Kweli.

In this new Roots video, Rik Cordero produces a mini-film, a cinematic narrative to accompany “The Fire” as its’ score. Unlike any music video I’ve seen before (perhaps coming closest to M.I.A.’s epic “Born Free” video), Rik is definitely doing something different here. With a full cast of characters set in a fictional post-apocalyptic Europe just after WWII, Rik takes us through a bloody, violent and hopeless march toward the unknown. Ultimately it is the one character, a prisoner who’s inner fire truly burns brightly, who survives, and receives what is supposed to represent the key to survival.

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of hanging out with the homie Saukrates and the chance to meet Redman (who is definitely one hella cool cat) out in Ottawa. That night both gentlemen went on to rock da spot something ferocious, turning the venue into an absolute madhouse. Red went through some mandatory classics like “Tonight’s Da Night”, his verse on “City Lights”, and his verse on “A-Yo” while letting Sauks shine and do some classics of his own, including “Comin’ Up”, “Wednesday”, and more.

Hit continue reading to watch Redman and Saukrates perform a new joint together called Drop It Down, which is produced by Rich Kidd that Saukrates will be releasing soon and which should be on his forthcoming LP Season One.

Since his debut single ‘Stay Strong’ in 2007, Harold has been working tirelessly on his other passion – music and is actively collaborating with Croatian music producer Tomo J. in der Muhlen on his soon to be released debut album.

‘H’ will reflect the level of creativity Harold has always pursued in his acting career. His music can be described as organic – every sound on the record is recorded live from live and even vintage instruments, with no artificial and digitally produced sound. Having his creative roots on the stage, what Harold enjoys the most is doing live shows where he performs with a full band: two guitars, bass, drums and keyboards. The packed gig at the cult Los Angeles club ‘The Mint’ in April 2010 showcased Harold’s full performance potential.

This feature’s short version aired on Croatia’s No. 1 show biz magazine Red Carpet on the national TV station NOVA.
