Chill Rob G ft. R.A. The Rugged Man – Tell Em
Iconic New Jersey emcee Chill Rob G was an original member of Queen Latifah’s influential Flavor Unit crew, alonside the likes of Lakim Shabazz, Naughty By Nature, Latee, and Apache. R.A. The Rugged Man was heavily influenced by Flavor Unit during his teenage years, especially Chill Rob. “His Ride the Rhythm album produced by 45 King was so lyrical on so many levels,” says R.A. “I loved the whole vibe and sound.”
An important early innovator who helped push the artform forward in the turbulent early 90s, Chill Rob G has drawn praise from many top emcees, including Nas. “So when Rob G asked me to do something with him, I was like, ‘Of course, let’s make something special’,” says R.A.
The result is Tell Em, a song and video taken from Rob’s new EP Chilled Not Frozen. “I think it came out vintage classic sound,” R.A. explains. “I’m excited about this one. Real underground HipHop 101.”
