Dig Of The Day: Brand Nubian – Wake Up (Reprise In The Sunshine) (1990)
Today we have a brilliant and intelligent track from one of the most conscious Hip-Hop groups, in time when they were absolutely in their prime, the legendary Brand Nubian. A group of 3 emcees (Grand Puba, Sadat X, Lord Jamar) and 2 DJ’s (DJ Alamo and DJ Sincere). This is a different kind of Hip-Hop with wisdom, knowledge, education and respect that almost certainly cannot be heard these days.
They’re known for socially conscious and politically charged content inspired by the teachings of the Nation of Gods and Earths. Wake Up (Reprise In The Sunshine) is from Brand Nubian‘s debut album One For All, released on Elektra in 1990. One For All is a truly great album, if you haven’t heard it, I strongly recommend it.
This is Hip-Hop ya’ll need to recognize.
