Dig Of The Day: InI – What You Say (1995)

We have a classic material from one of the smoothest and realest cats in the game, the legendary Mount Vernon underground group called InI, which was composed of Rob-O, Grap Luva, Ras G a.k.a. I Love H.I.M., Marco Polo, now known as Jolomite, and DJ Boodakhan.
What You Say is a part of their debut and only album Center Of Attention. The album eventually became one of the most bootlegged unreleased albums in Hip-Hop history but in 2003 it saw an official release thanks to Rapster Records and was included on Lost & Found: Hip Hop Underground Soul Classics, a double LP of Pete Rock‘s mid-1990s production work, the other LP being DedaThe Original Baby Pa.

Unfortunately, Pete Rock‘s distribution deal with Elektra Records fell through and plans to release the albums were subsequently cancelled because of issues over ownership of the masters. InI were signed to Pete Rock‘s Elektra imprint Soul Brother Records in 1994 but only managed to release the Fakin’ Jax 12″ before Elektra and Pete parted ways. They were active from 1990 – 1997.

Samples used – Lay Lady Lay by David T. Walker (1971) and So What Cha Sayin‘ by EPMD (1989)

Produced by Pete Rock.
