Ususret koncertu koji će se 23.2. održati u klubu Vip, Velimir Grgić je za tportal.hr odradio intervju s GZA-om kojeg možete pročitati u nastavku posta.

YOU ARE THE ONLY SURVIVING MEMBER OF WU-TANG THAT NEVER VISITED ZAGREB – ARE YOU EXCITED ABOUT THE FACT THAT YOU’LL FINALLY BE ABLE TO „COMPLETE“ THE PICTURE AND DID ANYBODY FROM WU-TANG EVER TOLD YOU ANYTHING ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCES IN CROATIA?

I’M REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO VISITING ZAGREB. NONE OF THE GUYS HAVE SAID ANYTHING ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCES THERE BUT I’M SURE THEY HAD A GOOD TIME.

TWO OF THE BIGGEST STARS IN WU-TANG ARE/WERE YOUR COUSINS, RZA AND ODB… HOW WAS YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THEM IN THE EARLY DAYS AND DID ANYTHING CHANGE DURING THE „GLORY YEARS“?

WE HAD A GREAT TIME IN THE EARLY DAYS. OUR FIRST GROUP WAS CALLED THE ALL IN TOGETHER NOW CREW. RZA WAS THE SCIENTIST, DIRTY WAS THE SPECIALIST, AND THEY GAVE ME THE NAME THE GENIUS, WHICH I RESISTED BUT IT EVENTUALLY STUCK. ONE THING THAT SOME PEOPLE DON’T KNOW IS THAT DIRTY WAS ONE OF THE GREATEST BEATBOXERS EVER. NOTHING CHANGED DURING THE “GLORY YEARS.” IF ANYTHING, WE ALL GOT CLOSER.

ODB BECAME LARGER THAN LIFE DURING HIS LIFE AND MANY PEOPLE THOUGHT THAT WU-TANG WON’T BE ABLE TO SURVIVE AND CONTINUE WITHOUT HIM. WERE YOU AFRAID OF THE SAME THING?

THERE’S NO DOUBT THAT DIRTY WAS A VITAL PART OF WU TANG BUT NONE OF US EVER THOUGHT THAT THE GROUP WOULD COLLAPSE WITHOUT HIM. THE CLAN IS A MIGHTY ENTITY AND ITS FATE DOESN’T REST ON THE SHOULDERS OF ANY ONE MEMBER.

WHAT IS THE FUTURE OF WU-TANG, THERE ARE TALKS OF NEW ALBUM PLANNED FOR THIS YEAR?

I DON’T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT A NEW ALBUM BUT I HOPE IT HAPPENS.

YOU ARE PREPARING ‘LIQUID SWORDS 2’ FOR 2012… CAN WE KNOW WHEN AND WHAT CAN WE EXPECT?

LIQUID SWORDS 2 IS DEFINITELY COMING IN THE NEAR FUTURE BUT I’VE GOT ANOTHER ALBUM COMING BEFORE THEN THAT I CAN’T TALK ABOUT YET BUT IT’S GOING TO BE AMAZING.

IS THAT THE MATERIAL YOU WILL PROMOTE IN ZAGREB OR YOU’LL PERFORM ONLY CLASSICS?

I’LL BE PERFORMING CLASSICS IN ZAGREB.

YOUR FIRST ALBUM WAS PUBLISHED IN 1991. THAT MAKES YOU 20 YEAR VETERAN OF THIS GAME. DID YOU EVER EXPECT YOU’LL BE IN HIP HOP THIS LONG? DID YOU HAVE ANY OTHER PLANS AS A YOUNG KID?

I NEVER REALLY ASKED MYSELF HOW LONG I WOULD BE IN HIP HOP BUT I AM GRATEFUL FOR MY LONGEVITY. ONCE I GOT INTO HIP HOP I NEVER IMAGINED DOING ANYTHING ELSE AS A KID BUT NOW THAT I’M OLDER I CAN IMAGINE MYSELF WRITING GRAPHIC NOVELS AND BOOKS. BUT I’LL ALWAYS WRITE.

WHERE DO YOU SE YOUR POSITION IN A CURRENT SCENE AND WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS OF CURRENT STATE OF HIP HOP?

I HAVE NEVER REALLY LOOKED AT MYSELF IN THE CURRENT LANDSCAPES. I’VE ALWAYS JUST STAYED TRUE TO MY ART AND MYSELF AND HAVE FOUND MY PLACE. AS FOR THE CURRENT STATE OF HIP HOP, I THINK IT’S PRETTY HOMOGENOUS BUT THE ARTISTS AREN’T TO BLAME FOR THAT, IT’S THE INDUSTRY WHO ARE ONLY SIGNING AND PROMOTING A CERTAIN STYLE.

Ne znam tko mi je najbolji član Wu-Tanga, ali on je definitivno u konkurenciji. Vidimo se.
