In Memory of Walter Becker: Ten Iconic Steely Dan Samples

Steely Dan co-founder and bassist/guitarist Walter Becker has died aged 67. Becker is said to have missed concerts earlier this year in order to recover from ill health, although no cause of death has been confirmed. The group, oddly enough named after a dildo from William Borrough‘s cult classic leftfield novel The Naked Lunch, have sold over 40 million albums and gained a loyal following not just for their catchy and witty jazz-rock songwriting, but also with subsequent generations who have discovered the band’s ear for a groove and excellent musicianship via sampling.

In Memory of Walter Becker, Who Sampled selected ten iconic samples from Steely Dan‘s enviable back catalogue. Check out the list at whosampled.com.
