Apparently this joint is a take on the Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth classic T.R.O.Y.. While I’m only hearing certain elements of the original in this, it’s safe to say this is a ridiculously dope instrumental either way. Mr. Chop, who Stones Throw says is DOOM’s go-to-guy for instrumentals, clearly knows what he’s doing here. In fact, Mr. Chop co-wrote and co-produced several tracks off Born Like This. And now, the beatsmith is tackling Pete Rock classics on For Pete’s Sake.
