It’s been a minute since we’ve heard from New York hip-hop heavyweight O.C., who’s previously release was 2009’s Oasis with D.I.T.C. cohort A.G. But this coming May, O.C. will make his return to boom-bap with some help from Detroit producer Apollo Brown. They have teamed up for a joint release, Trophies, that we’re getting the first taste of today with “Prove Me Wrong.”
The track debuted over the weekend on DJ Premier’s Live From HeadQCourterz Radio, so you’ll have to deal with some minor tags here and there. But for the most part, you’re able to hear exactly what this duo has in store: thoughtful, nostalgic NYC boom-bap with a touch of beauty thanks to Brown’s ear for sampling. Trophies drops May 1.

UPDATE: Now in CDQ.
