The Making of Jay-Z’s “Hard Knock Life”

The story that’s often told about the beat is that Jay overheard Kid Capri play it and immediately wanted it for his album. But here, Jay-Z sits down with SVT (Swedish television) to tell the story of the song’s producer, The 45 King, who also has DJ Kool’s Let Me Clear My Throat and Eminem’s Stan to his credit. Kid Capri makes a cameo too. It’s from a documentary that chronicles hit songs, this segment focusing on Jay-Z’s Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem). Watch the full thing here.

  1. so ill. You need to cop the making of Reasonable Doubt tho. Best Jay beat was Dead Presidents. Watch me play that on piano while rappin my own verse at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1k1gLFq-qw

I play Feelin It too, and Changes by Pac and Big Poppa by… Big Poppa.

Or for a better rendition of Big Poppa look up Will Ferrell as Robert Goulet singing rap classics.
