The star of the show, the godfather of soul, an absolute legend in music history, a singer, songwriter, dancer, bandleader and record producer, the founding father of funk and a major 20th century figure whose career spanned for six decades, the one and only – James Brown.
This priceless footage of one of the greatest live performances ever witnessed is from T.A.M.I. Show, a 1964 concert film released by American International Pictures. It includes performances by numerous popular rock and roll and R&B musicians from the United States and England.
He’s backed by The Famous Flames, a rhythm and blues vocal group founded in Toccoa, Georgia, in 1953 by Bobby Byrd. James Brown began his career as a member of The Famous Flames, emerging as the lead singer by the time of their first professional recording, Please, Please, Please, in 1956.
In 2006, T.A.M.I. Show was deemed “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” by the United States Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry.
