With the West Coast buzz goin’ super hard, 106KMEL’s own Shay Diddy had the chance to sit down with DJ Quik backstage at the Art of Rap festival. They discussed his experience working in the studio with Dr. Dre, and having a “super fan” moment with him. Quik also calls Dre’s newest album “brilliant” and the “future of music”.

As for himself, Quik isn’t sure if he will be dropping a new album, though if he did, he names Erick Sermon, Xzibit King T, and Mack 10 as artists he’d want to collaborate with. Additionally, he names Jeezy, Drake and Kendrick Lamar being some of his favorite artists out right now, even calling Kendrick the “N.W.A. Jr”.

Quik also talked about working with DJ Mustard on YG’s Pop It and My Ni**a, and his thoughts on the current state of Hip Hop and the direction its headed. Lastly, Quik reminisced about how KMEL broke his debut record Born and Raised in Compton back in ’91.
