Video: Hunting for rappers with Cortex (Gasface)

Gasface speaks with Alain Mion of frequently sampled 70s jazz/funk band Cortex. Mion explains how he first became aware of Rappers sampling his work around the early 2000s and that he now enjoys a nice stream of residual income from samples he has cleared for the likes of Rick Ross (“Oyster Perpetual”, “Amsterdam”), Wiz Khalifa (“Visions”) and MF Doom (“One Beer”). He notes that Rappers don’t always bother to clear his stuff beforehand and sometimes he turns down offers that are below his rate, as he did with Curren$y for his use of elements from “Chanson D’Un Jour D’Hiver”.
