Video: Pee Wee Kirkland On The History Of NYC Street Basketball

One giant of Rucker Park is Pee Wee Kirkland. An unstoppable force on the court during the ’60s and ’70s, he was also—as Clipse referenced in their track “Grindin’”—a “legend in two games.” As Pee Wee hustled as hard as he balled, the law eventually caught up with him, but he ended up coming out of prison with a newfound dedication to helping guide others in the right direction.

Fellow New Yorker and street photographer Ricky Powell headed uptown to meet Pee Wee and Rucker Park commissioner Bob McCullough to hear the legend of the court from two people who helped write its history.
